Trying something different here, seeming as though I seem to always start with “so…”. It is hard but I am up for the challenge.
A new topic series I have decided to start is Random Though of the Day. The first one being kicked off with a movie I watched today called The Hive. Well I am not one for horror movies, but since I have been engrossed with The Walking Dead in the last 12 months, I would hardly call this a horror film, even though I made sure to watch it in the middle of the day while there was no one around to jump out and scare me. Its more like a twisted story of something that is quite unlikely to happen, but on some extremely farfetched level could actually happen. If you have seen The Hive, I am not crazy but I do have an open mind about these sorts of things and I really like to indulge in my imaginative side from time to time.
The Hive is basically about a guy who is a group leader at a summer camp for kids who becomes infected with some like virus thing and cannot remember who he is or what happened. The story is told from a few different points in time and it basically took me until the end of the movie to figure out why it was told that way. At first I thought gee this movie is really weird and the story line doesn’t even make sense, but by the end I was like yeah okay I see what you are trying to do here Mr Director. Personally I would have ended the movie a little different but it was still entertaining to say the least. And I guess the other reason I liked it so much was because Kathryn Prescott was one of the leads in the film. She played Emily Fitch in Skins and Carter Stevens in Finding Carter. Two series I absolutely love to pieces. Kathryn is a really talented actress and seems to be able to play a diverse range of roles quite convincingly, even if the stories are not everyday ones. If you like watching non-mainstream movies, can handle a bi-polar story line and a bit of gore (well I would call it gore) then definitely check out The Hive.
I only really came across this movie because I tend to do the whole “Kevin Bacon six degrees of separation” IMDB searches when I come across an actor/actress I like. If you don’t know what this means, I am pretty sure I am going to feel really old when you ask. Basically, if I like a movie or TV series, I search for the actors/actresses previous/upcoming filmography so I can find new things to watch. IMDB is great for this as it also shows things you might like that are similar to the movie/series you search for. I have done this for so long and used to do these searches when I worked at a video store during my university days to expand my entertainment knowledge as well as pass the time when I wasn’t nose deep in a book studying. Its a great way to broaden your horizons and watch things that are not so mainstream or predicable. There are a few downsides to this though, like when you watch a movie that turns out to be complete and utter crap (doesn’t happen to often though) and you feel like you have wasted a few hours of your life or even worse, when you come across a really awesome TV series and find out that its cancelled when it starts to get addictive.
If you do watch The Hive, please comment and let me know what you think.
Thanks for reading and hope you come back an visit soon
